SAP S/4HANA IN NORTH AMERICA
The Magellan Transformation Program (MTP) is a business transformation initiative aiming to adopt a common set of processes and standardized data to achieve improved efficiency, visibility, and agility across all divisions globally.
MTP is underpinned by S/4HANA, the flagship enterprise resource planning (ERP) software from SAP designed for large and complex organizations, delivering the latest industry best practices and continuous innovation.
Building on the implementations in the UK, the Magellan SAP S/4HANA Template Project was launched in late 2023 in North America.
What is the goal of this project?
The project objective is to ensure the Magellan SAP S/4HANA system is an end-to-end solution designed to work successfully for all Magellan divisions.
Who has been involved?
Magellan has an established SAP Center of Excellence (CoE) comprised of experienced individuals who support the S/4HANA footprint in the UK and will also support all the North American divisions as part of their S/4HANA implementations.
Working alongside the SAP CoE, all ten North American divisions nominated Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to participate in the project. These SMEs, along with regional Business Process Owners (BPOs), were organized into functional teams, which were led by the respective SAP CoE functional leads and the Global Business Process Owners.
How is the Magellan SAP S/4HANA Template Project being carried out?
Step 1: Workshops were scheduled over a four-month period in order to carry out a thorough deep-dive of into the North American divisions’ business process requirements. These workshops provided a platform for the SMEs and other stakeholders to contribute their insights and expertise to ensure their division’s requirements were included. Crucially, these sessions provided the SAP CoE with a comprehensive understanding of existing business processes, master data, reports, and the various systems currently deployed.
Step 2: Taking the contributions from these sessions, the next step was to document standardized business processes that would meet the intentions of the project, ensuring nothing had been overlooked, in order to present them to the key business owners for review and approval.
Step 3: The final project deliverable is a comprehensive SAP S/4HANA solution blueprint that maps the Magellan business requirements to the latest features and functionality offered by the S/4HANA platform. Alongside the approved business processes, this solution will cover data elements, reports, and any external system integrations required for the North American implementations.
